Just to say...

a sincere "Welcome" to Dawn and her children Jack, Sameem and Shabnam.

Getting there...

Well, I've almost finished the Christmas cards.  Phew!!!  (Photos to follow.)  Some of the cards are now in the post, the others will be sent on their way sometime tomorrow.

In the interests of sanity, I've decided to make a start on next year's cards in January!!!

Problem solved, I hope...

So, viewing the blog today on a different computer and it's being displayed on screen as intended.  Very strange.  Computers are wonderful, aren't they!

Just wondering why...

this blog displays as I intended it to in Firefox yet doesn't in MS Explorer?

I've checked the various settings and everything looks okay, yet it's still not looking as it should in MS Explorer   :(

If you have a few moments to spare then perhaps you could view this blog in both browsers and let me know how it looks.

Tempus Fugit...

Well, another week has flown by and the Christmas cards are a little nearer completion than they were this time last week.

Hooray!  The lounge curtains are now completed and the sewing machine put away until the Christmas cards have been finished.  There's a pile of fabric cut out and waiting to be sewn up, and I've just ordered some more patterns from SewDirect as they were on a 3 for the price of 1 offer for subscribers to their magazine.  If you're a keen sewer then you'll appreciate that it was an offer not to be missed.  I've a considerable stash of fabric and knitting yarn so this will keep me suitably occupied for the next year or three!!!

Since yesterday I've found myself working on a DTP project (that wasn't on the schedule) for someone we know and so card making is on hold again for the next day or so.  All being well I'll be able to crack on with completing the Christmas cards over the week-end.  Yes, I know, it would have been sensible to say "No" to the DTP stuff but it helps maintain the skills base and as long as the cards are completed ready to be posted on 1 December then there's no real harm done.

Well, you know what they say... if it wasn't for the last minute then nothing would ever get done!

While you're waiting to see this year's Christmas cards, here's a picture of a quick and simple card that I made for the 2007 festive season.

It comprises of a sheet of linen textured dark blue A5 card folded lengthways with some silver mirri card as a matt and a part sheet of backing paper from a selection pack.

The front of the card was deliberately left plain to avoid spoiling the symmetry of the tree design.

There's still some of the design paper lurking in the paper stash - might use it up to make a few quick cards for this year in an effort to make up for lost time.

Okay, must go now as it's time for kitchen duty.

A new month...

Well, today is the 1st of November.

They say that life is like a loo roll - the nearer the end you get, the faster its goes.  This year has really flown by so it might be a good idea to start buying those double length loo rolls!

So, the plan was to have the Christmas cards completed by yesterday but it will probably be week-end before they're all done. To be honest, right now, I could happily buy some cards and just make those few special ones.

Sometimes I think that the gremlins see the card making stuff coming out and devise all manner of disruptions and interruptions to prevent me completing the cards, to the point that it doesn't seem worth planning a day's crafting in the first place.  Know the feeling?

All being well, I'll be able to finish sewing the new lounge curtains tomorrow now that I have a working sewing machine again.  Then, when the cards have been finished, I'll be able to start on sewing some new things for myself and the grandchildren.  Fingers crossed that the gremlins will be hibernating for the winter!

Watch this space!

Eureka...

Well, I'm pleased to say that the missing ribbon box was found earlier this morning.

It was nowhere near my crafting stuff, and how it had found its way to where it was hiding is anyone's guess.

Another senior moment?  Well, no, not this time.

Looks like this is another mystery to blame on those infamous gremlins!

Tidying up...

The more that I tidy up my crafting space then the less I seem able to find anything.  It is SO frustrating.

When everything that has been sorted so far is now in its own box, drawer, container, place or space, and also clearly labelled, then why can't I find things?

How on earth can I have misplaced a 9 litre Really Useful Box that's full of ribbons?  It should be in this room somewhere, but where!  Logic says that a box of this size should be big enough to see, but it's nowhere to be seen!

Before, in the clutter and chaos that is familiar to so many crafters, I could find anything.

But now...  Ho hum.

In the meantime, don't forget that...

Shades of Christmas Past...

I made this nice 'n' simple Christmas card a couple of years ago.

The image was from a MCS CD.  The original gold-toned colour didn't look as good as I wanted it to when it had been printed so I recoloured it.

One of the benefits of being a little OCD is that I keep a list of who is sent what style of card each year and so I might rework this one and send it out again this year to those who didn't receive this card last time around.

Yes, it's a simple card but looks surprisingly stylish when you see it for real.

Birthday Card for Lucy...

I made this card last year for Lucy's 2nd birthday.  (She is one of our grandchildren's cousins.)

The topper and backing paper are from one of the CC's "Popcorn Bear" CDs.

The balloons and presents were made from peel-offs that had been put onto card, coloured and then cut out.

(This year I made her card using a Sarah Kay decoupage topper - must upload the photo of this sometime.)

18th Birthday Card...

Earlier this year a neighbour asked for a card suitable for her horse-mad granddaughter's 18th birthday and this is what I came up with...

The colour theme needed to be turquoise and coffee shades of mid-brown.

The background papers were from a K & Co McKenna pad, the ribbon is from the craft section in The Range and the rosette was made using a Papermania template and coloured copier paper.  I used a permanent marker pen to colour the pearl embellishments and the peel-off sentiment.

Anniversary Card...

Here's an anniversary card that I made a few months ago for my cousin to give to friends.

Again, the decoupage is from one of CC's Reddy collections.

The base card is CC's Ivory Centura Pearl and the embossing folders are Cuttlebug's "Swiss Dots" and "D'vine Swirls".

Birthday card for a friend...

I made this card in September for a friend's birthday.

This photo was taken before the card was put in its envelope.

Unfortunately, the card wasn't too happy about standing up properly after being in the envelope!

I'd used glue gel to assemble the card and the combined weight of this and the matts and layers proved too much for the linen effect base card that had been used.  (Note to self: use Centura Pearl or Stardream card for the base card next time I'm making this style of card as it will be sturdier!)

Anyway, after the birthday I did some modifications and created a support from stiff card for the reverse/unseen side of the card and it now stand ups nicely.

The modifications are somewhat permanent and the card doesn't fold down now but my friend's pleased with the result.

The decoupage is from one of CC's Reddy collections, Core'dinations card is from the Nostalgia pack and the embossing folder is Cuttlebug's 'Victoria'.

A quick card...

Here's the card I made for DS and DIL's wedding anniversary last month.

The decoupage is from CC's Cream Quackered collection and I'd already made this up so the card didn't take too long to put together.

They don't like fussy cards and this one was well received.
